German and Japanese experts jointly develop a chassis for the new generation of sports cars from 2014
The company Toyota has decided on the place of production of its new sports car, which is positioned as a successor to the Supra. The machine will go off the production line of Magna Steyr, which is located in Graz (Austria). At the same plant will be assembled and single-platform sports car BMW Z4. This is reported by Automotive News referring to a source who is familiar with the situation. He explained that German and Japanese experts are jointly developing a chassis for the new generation of sports cars since 2014.
As for the flagship sports car Toyota, its production should begin in the first half of next year. The car will be sold under a new subbrand of Gazoo Racing. Thanks to the body of carbon fiber, the weight of the car will be less than 1,400 kilograms.
Flagship sports car Toyota will receive a hybrid power plant with an electric unit on the front axle and a full drive. In addition, the sports car for the first time in the history of Toyota will receive a robotic gearbox with two clutches. The engine line should include a two-liter 4-cylinder turbo with a capacity of about 245 forces, as well as a three-liter six-cylinder unit that produces about 330 horsepower. Both motors will be provided by BMW.
As for the BMW Z4 roadster of the third generation, its release may begin already at the end of this year. The base engine of the revived roadster BMW Z4 will be a two-liter 4-cylinder turbo, issuing 251 hp and 350 Nm of torque. The top version of the roadster, which will receive the designation M40i, will be equipped with an inflatable six-cylinder, issuing 340 horsepower. In addition, the car will be available with a more powerful modification of the same engine, which develops 390 hp.
