New Toyota Glanza: Analogue Suzuki Baleno Something Beats The OriginalApril 26, 2019
Toyota has revealed the name of its new hatch, and also published its video teaser. A novelty will be offered with only one motor
Toyota and Suzuki announced cooperation two years ago, and in early 2019 the details of the partnership became known: the firms would exchange power plants and models. Now the Japanese have moved from words to deeds – Toyota has announced a new Glanza hatchback, designed for the Indian market. Under this name is a clone of the hatchback Baleno from the joint company Maruti Suzuki.
At the moment, Toyota has distributed one new video teaser. In the video you can see the back of the car. Apparently, the feed at Glanza is the same as that of the donor Baleno. But in front of the hatch Toyota, most likely, another grille, plus, perhaps, a bumper retouched. Salon is likely to completely go with the model Suzuki, change only the emblem on the steering wheel.
According to preliminary information, Toyota Glanza will be offered with only one engine – this is the petrol “four” 1.2 (83 hp, 113 Nm) from Baleno. The engine is paired with a five-speed manual or CVT. The Suzuki hatch in India has recently got a 90-horsepower 1.2 Dual Jet engine with a hybrid superstructure. In addition, the Baleno is available with a 1.3 DDiS turbodiesel (75 hp, 190 Nm) and in the RS version with a gasoline “turbo-three” 1.0 Boosterjet (102 hp, 150 Nm).
Indian media reported that Glanza will have two complete sets, the composition of which is similar to the average and top variants of Baleno. That is, Toyota’s hatch will be more expensive than the “brother.” Note, Baleno in India is considered a “premium” model, it is sold through a separate Nexa dealer network (in such salons the Ignis cross and Ciaz sedan are also represented). The price of hatchback Suzuki starts with a mark of 546,300 rupees.
It is expected that the standard factory warranty for Toyota Glanza will be three years or 100,000 kilometers versus two years and 40,000 kilometers from Baleno. But both hatch will be produced at the first stage at the same enterprise – on the Maruti Suzuki site. At its own local plant, Toyota will transfer the hatchback later.
The official premiere of Glanza should take place soon. Under the Toyota brand, India plans to release three more Suzuki models: the Vitara Brezza crossover, the Ciaz sedan and the Ertiga compact van. And in Suzuki, the Toyota Corolla was supposed to be transformed there, but local media reported that the project was canceled.
Only the Indian market will not be limited to the converted Suzuki machines – they are also going to sell them in Africa. They will not get to the Old World, but the Toyota RAV4 hybrid and the Corolla Touring Sports wagon will offer Europeans under the Suzuki brand.
