New Subaru Forester reached JapanMay 18, 2018
The fifth-generation crossover debuted on the local market. The manufacturer has already started accepting orders, and deliveries of “live” cars are planned for the summer.
Recall, the world premiere of Subaru Forester a new generation was held at the Auto Show in New York in late March this year. The car was transferred to a new platform, and design changes are evolutionary in nature. The crossover length is 4,625 mm, the width is 1,815 mm, the height is 1,715 mm, the wheelbase is 2,670, and the ground clearance is 220 mm.
In the Japanese market, the Forester will be sold in four trim levels: Advance, Touring, Premium and X-Break. The latter option is off-road, it is equipped with a plastic kit and roof rails.
The American version of the Forester is equipped exclusively with an atmospheric volume of 2.5 liters with direct injection and a start-stop system. The output of the engine, combined with the Lineatronic variator and the symmetrical all-wheel drive system, is 182 hp and 238 Nm. In Japan, there will also be a hybrid version, which consists of a two-liter “four” with direct injection. The output of the engine is 145 hp and 188 Nm, and the electric motor, powered by a lithium-ion battery, it is equal to 14 hp and 65 Nm. A hybrid system is also combined with a variator.
In addition, the manufacturer focuses on the modern Driver Monitoring System, which monitors the driver and notifies him when necessary to return to driving (for example, the driver fell asleep or was distracted). The system also can adjust the seat in automatic mode, exterior mirrors, air conditioning and save settings for five different drivers, recognizing their faces.
In the United States, Subaru Forester’s business is going well, last year the company sold 177 563 cars there, which is almost identical to the result of 2016 when 178 593 cars were sold. In Europe, the achievements are much more modest – 13,185 units in 2017 and 12,607 units in 2016.
Earlier we reported that for the biggest crossover of the Japanese brand can expand the geography of sales. At present, Subaru Ascent is sold only in the North American market.
