New Porsche 911 can fight with wet roadsJanuary 22, 2019
Everyone around is surprised at how fast the new generation of the sports coupe Porsche 911 is, even in its most low-powered version of the Carrera S. We can only imagine what the mighty Turbo S is capable of, but have to wait a few months until we see it.
But what distinguishes the 992 generation from all its predecessors is its technologies, advanced technologies. In addition, the engineers of the German company taught their coupe to feel confident even on the most winding roads and highways. In addition, the new product can “sink” on a wet surface without any problems due to the new Porsche Wet Mode.
According to the automaker, the system makes the car more comfortable, manageable, safe and fast even in rainy weather.
The car automatically detects wet roads and runs a program of sustainability. The system warns the driver about the risk of aquaplaning when acoustic sensors in the front wheel housing detect flooded water.
In addition, under certain conditions on wet roads, the car asks the driver to manually activate the Wet Mode using the button above the center console (or built into the mode selector on the steering wheel using the optional Sport Chrono package). After launch, this mode adapts the operation of the vehicle’s thrust and stability systems, adaptive aerodynamics and driving responsiveness. Even the rear spoiler is extended to the working position to generate downforce.
In the case of the all-wheel drive Carrera 4S, the system automatically transfers more power to the front wheels. Regardless of the specification, when the wet mode is activated, the increase in engine torque becomes smoother, and the switching strategy of the 8-step automatic transmission goes into adaptive mode.
