During the year, Peugeot announced its intention to add a sports top version to the 508 package.
In February last year, Peugeot introduced the 508 Sport Engineered Concept with a carefully crafted 508, with which the French were counting on a very powerful version of their “sedan,” which gets a plug-in hybrid powertrain.
Around the same time last year, Peugeot CEO Jean-Philippe Imparato confirmed on Twitter that the brand will launch the car in series, but there is as yet no actual production version. Now Peugeot is showing a new portfolio of its future “athlete”, which indicates the upcoming debut of the model.
Peugeot calls the new product simply “508 PSE”, the name, the last three letters of which stand for Peugeot Sport Engineered. Although the car looks a bit softer than the concept car introduced last year, the sporty PHEV promises to be a powerful version. The concept car was equipped with a 1.6-horsepower engine producing 200 hp, which was paired with two electric motors. The total power of the system was 400 hp.
Peugeot supplies the 508 with a hybrid 225 hp propulsion system, and the 3008 engine is a Hybrid4, also a plug-in hybrid with a combined power of 300 hp. These units seem too small for the 508 PSE.
A related DS brand recently introduced the DS9, which will be available with a 360-horsepower hybrid installation. It is possible that Peugeot will borrow it for installation in 508. In this case, the 508 Peugeot Sport Engineered will receive all-wheel drive.
