The development process for the new generation Mercedes GLC continues. Mercedes is testing SUV prototypes in Southern Europe. A model that will rely on electrification without complexes, adding three plug-in hybrid variants to the engine range.

Mercedes has decided to accelerate the development process of the next generation of one of the most successful and popular SUVs. The Mercedes GLC will be significantly redesigned over the course of a generational change. The new generation is under testing and has already been spotted in Southern Europe.

Mercedes specialists began a new series of crossover tests and photo spies managed to capture the prototype in camouflage, which, however, does not interfere with a detailed examination of the car, which already contains many elements from the production version.

Despite all the camouflage, there are certain components that we need to focus on. Front optics are one of them. In addition, the grate remained open. Given the commercial success of the current model, any changes Mercedes makes will generate a lot of interest.

The brand has chosen a strategy of continuity in the exterior design. That is, the new generation will remain recognizable as the GLC, but will adapt to the new design language that Mercedes is adopting. This will allow the model to look more modern and dynamic. Most of the modifications will receive new headlights, bumpers and a radiator grill. The dimensions of the car will also differ.

The interior of the newest car will also receive a number of changes, becoming more technological and comfortable. To suggest exactly how the interior will be changed, you can evaluate the new generation of the Mercedes C-Class, which recently went on sale, since the crossover will borrow many ideas.

In addition to the digital instrument cluster, which is already widespread in most segments, the new GLC will feature a large touchscreen that will take up the area of the old center console. It will be a key element for operating all the functions and tools included in the infotainment system. The list of digital online services as well as driving assistance systems will be expanded.

On the mechanical side, the new generation GLC will reaffirm its commitment to electrification. The petrol and diesel engines will use 48-volt lightweight hybrid technology (MHEV), which, in addition to improving efficiency levels, will receive an additional 20 hp. All engines will be mated to the 9G-TRONIC nine-speed automatic transmission and the 4MATIC all-wheel drive system.

The plug-in hybrid variants will have 100% electric autonomy and will be able to travel 100 kilometers on a single charge thanks to a lithium-ion battery with a useful capacity of 23.8 kWh.

The debut of the new Mercedes GLC is scheduled for spring 2022. The order book will open shortly thereafter in the main European markets.
