New Mercedes C-Class spotted on tests at the NurburgringOctober 26, 2020
The German company has brought its new sedan to the test.
Following the debut of the refreshed luxury Mercedes S-Class, the company has begun testing its next model, as evidenced by spy shots showing a prototype of the 2022 C-Class.
The new C-Class is not much different from the previous model in the photos, but the model may still receive additional changes. The German sedan doesn’t seem to be tested to its limits, but rather an endurance test for suspension and steering as the test driver hardly ever applies the brakes.
Two highlights in the new C-Class include a diesel-powered hybrid powertrain for Europe and an electrified AMG model. This was recently confirmed by Ola Källenius, CEO of the Daimler Group. In fact, according to Calllenius, the new C-Class will be essentially a scaled-down S-Class. Thus, there will be only minor visual differences between them.
The 2022 C-Class, codenamed W203 (sedan) and S203 (station wagon), is likely to undergo major changes in relation to the top model. The C63 is expected to switch to an electrified 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, replacing the current twin-turbo V8. Adding an electric motor to the four-cylinder engine could help the new C63 get more horsepower.
The debut of the new C-Class is due in 2021.
