New Mercedes-Benz G-Class will receive a cheap variationAugust 2, 2020
German automaker Mercedes-Benz is developing a cheap variation of the new G-Class.
Such an SUV will get a 2.0 gasoline turbo four to avoid being subject to luxury tax in China. The most budgetary G-Class will have an index “350”.
The Chinese press reported that the 4-cylinder 2.0-liter M264 engine of the Mercedes-Benz G 350 for the PRC will produce 299 hp. (400 Nm). There is no “global” SUV with the same index – variations of the G 350 d with a 6-cylinder 286-horsepower (600 Nm) turbodiesel OM656 – in the Chinese car market.
The external differences between the standard G 350 and the more efficient version of the G 500 lie in the wheels of a smaller diameter and nameplates. The G-Class with a 2.0-liter unit has the same 9-speed automatic transmission and similar differential locks.
Apparently, the G 350 will get a simplified package, although the interior is the same as that of the “older” variants. The Chinese dealership of the German brand wants to release a cheap version of Gelenevagen in order to bring the cost of the model below the level of 1.469 million yuan, as a result, buyers of the “affordable” version will not be subject to luxury tax.
According to assumptions, the G 350 SUV in China will be on sale in September this year. Such a machine will be sold exclusively in the Chinese market.
In addition, it was recently reported that Mercedes-Benz is planning to stop selling some models. The model line will be abandoned by the cars that are the least popular. In their place will come the more popular now SUVs and crosses.
