New Mercedes-AMG SL 63 spotted in testsOctober 12, 2020
The brand new “charged” Mercedes SL 2022 is out for testing.
A prototype of the new 2022 Mercedes-AMG SL 63 spotted during tests. The “charged” new car is given by the twin tailpipes of the exhaust system. Otherwise, this prototype looks pretty much the same as the other new SL models in disguise.
The only thing different besides the pipes is the camouflage on the roof and wheels. In fact, this prototype is being tested with two different wheel designs. The rear wheels are five single spokes and the front wheels are five double spokes.
The next SL version will have the same platform as the Mercedes-AMG GT, which was recently confirmed by AMG head Tobias Moers.
“We are bringing back the historical DNA of the SL,” he said last year. “[This time] is much sportier. It will be the perfect compromise between driving dynamics and comfort, because this is a cruiser too. “
In addition to the shared architecture, the SL and GT are expected to share axles, suspensions, steering systems, and hybrid powertrains. Both will be built at the same German manufacturer’s plant in Sindelfingen, Germany.
According to the available information, the new SL was designed with a longer bonnet and a more rearward-shifted cab. “The new platform gave us more freedom,” the source said. The SL 63 is rumored to be powered by a 604bhp twin-turbo V8, though no official specs are available yet.
