New Mercedes-AMG E-Class Coupe and Convertible Benefit from Style UpdateMay 27, 2020
The two-door E450 and AMG E53 remain among the most beautiful among modern Mercedes models.
Throughout its history, the design of Mercedes-Benz has undergone significant changes. Current chief designer Gorden Wagener has developed his own special modeling language, and the current E-Class coupe and convertible are arguably the cleanest of all Mercedes models. An update for 2021 made these machines even more harmonious.
The Panamericana-style grille, originally designed for AMG models, has been refined to combine subtle aggressiveness and elegance. The headlights coincide with the new grille, and in general the front of the car looks more even and solid. Thin taillights show off their paddle-shaped interior lighting and look even sharper than before. New discs and colors complement facelift.
The same changes apply to the AMG E53, but it suggests more aggressive behavior. Vertical bars such as the AMG GT predominate in the front grill, and four perfectly round tailpipes in the rear. Meanwhile, the front wings of the AMG are decorated with the inscription “Turbo”, as if there was one Mercedes-Benz model left without turbochargers.
Like the recently updated 2021 E-Class sedan, the E450 AMG E53 coupe and convertible are equipped with new steering wheels with a pronounced, almost spherical center hub. Both are equipped with the latest MBUX system and an updated infotainment system.
Both the E450 and AMG E53 are powered by six latest-generation Daimler engines equipped with a 48V hybrid system and an integrated starter-generator that can start the engine silently, provide small power gains and reduce fuel consumption. The AMG E53 engine remains unchanged: 429 horsepower and, but for the E450, switching from the previous 362-horsepower V6 to an equally powerful inline six should mean a better fuel consumption indicator and a smoother behavior. As before, the E450 will be available with 4Matic rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, the latter being standard on the AMG E53.
For the first time, AMG offers the Dynamic Plus sports package for models with fewer than eight cylinders. An unfortunate reason for this is that there will not be a version of the AMG E63 with a V8 engine for a coupe or convertible.
Mercedes says the updated coupe and convertible E-Class 2021 will go on sale in the United States by the end of the year. Prices have not yet been announced, but they should remain close to the current range, which starts at $ 65,345 for the E450 coupe and up to $ 82,645 for the AMG E53 convertible.
