Photo spies spotted the new supercar Maserati GranTurismo during tests in Italy.

Maserati has brought the new GranTurismo for testing in a production body with a light camouflage pattern, and it looks like the model is in its final stages of development. The official debut of the car should take place before the end of 2021. The company has confirmed that the new generation GranTurismo and GranCabrio will be available in both ICE and electric versions.

The new sports cars were announced last year as part of Maserati’s strategy of launching 13 new models by the end of 2024. An earlier GranTurismo mule with a body from an Alfa Romeo Giulia was spotted in February 2021, but development has apparently continued since then.

In June 2021, Maserati showed us a camouflaged GranTurismo prototype for the first time, revealing its curves. New spy shots give us a clearer view of the car from different angles. The LED headlights on the front fenders are inspired by the MC20, while the sculpted front bumper is dominated by a large grille and air intakes on each side. The pronounced rear fenders give rise to a beautiful tail section design with a heavily sloped rear windshield and aggressive taillights. The strange bumps on the bonnet, side doors and roofline are probably just part of the camouflage.

The test car pictured looks like an internal combustion engine as it has four tailpipes next to the rear diffuser. This means it is likely powered by the new 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 that premiered in the MC20. Maserati has confirmed that the GranTurismo and GranCabrio will also be available with all-electric powertrains, making them the company’s first electric vehicles.

The characteristic Ferrari V8 sound in the first generation GranTurismo may be gone forever, but we expect significantly improved performance, sharper dynamics and more premium interior in the new model. We’ll have more information on the Italian sports car as we get closer to its debut.
