New Lexus NX first spotted during testsJanuary 13, 2021
The updated Japanese crossover Lexus NX will receive a revised engine lineup.
The prototype of the second-generation Lexus NX luxury crossover is shown for the first time in photographs taken by journalists. The newest car will replace the outdated NX model of the current generation, which has been around since 2014. In addition to the more modern styling featured here, the new NX is expected to receive other engines as Lexus has applied for new model names including the NX250. , NX350 and NX350h.
Situated between the Lexus UX and RX, the new NX will compete mainly with small cars such as the BMW X1 and Audi Q3. Technically, the premium crossover will share components with the Toyota RAV4. Thus, the new car will be based on the front-wheel drive version of the GA-K, based on the Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA). As a result, the model can add in size and get a longer wheelbase.
Lexus recently registered trademarks NX250, NX350 and NX350h, which suggests a change in the engine lineup from the current NX300 and NX300h models. The NX250 is speculated to have a naturally aspirated 2.5-liter inline-four, and the current 2.0-liter turbo unit could be dropped from the lineup. The NX350h name suggests that the hybrid version will be more powerful. Lexus could use a 302-horsepower plug-in hybrid from the RAV4 Prime. And the NX350 will get a 3.5-liter V6 engine.
The interior is expected to be much better than the current NX. The new SUV should receive a touchscreen infotainment system. The two-row, five-seat layout will also be retained. Lexus has not officially confirmed the debut of the new 2022 NX, but more details will be announced later this year.
