New Kia Sorento 2021 will receive plug-in hybrid enginesDecember 31, 2019
The mid-size crossover Kia Sorento of the new generation, which should go on sale as the novelty of the 2021 model year, will receive plug-in hybrid engines.
In an interview with Automotive News Europe, Emilio Herrera, chief operating officer of Kia Europe, spoke in detail about how a South Korean automaker solves problems with its cars meeting stringent CO2 emissions regulations. Part of the interview was devoted to future models, and Herrera announced that a plug-in hybrid engine will be available for the next-generation mid-size Sorento crossover.
Spy shots already provide us with a good look at the long-awaited new product. The overall appearance looks quite similar to the existing one, but with a revised design of the front and rear of the car. The false radiator grille seems already current and now connects to headlights that seem smaller. Photos still do not give us a glimpse of the new interior, but we can expect a new version of the infotainment system and an expanded list of active security technologies.
Most likely, the all-new Sorento will go on sale as a 2021 model year car. It is not yet clear whether electrified versions of the machine will be available at the start of sales or they will be offered after some time.
Herrera also says Kia has a production version of the previously introduced Imagine EV concept, which will be officially unveiled in 2021. And yes, the new model received a coupe-like body, but you should not expect that the spectacular doors and 21 screens will get to the production version of the car. According to Herrera, Kia has a car with a hydrogen fuel cell, which will appear in late 2020 or early 2021.
