New Jeep Compass will be equipped with automatic transmission onlyJuly 21, 2020
Due to declining demand for manual transmissions, the American company revised the transmissions for its crossover.
A study from the first quarter of 2020 found that only 13% or 41 of the 327 brand new vehicles come with a manual transmission. In this regard, Jeep decided to abandon the manual transmission for the new Compass.
The Jeep Compass will enter the 2021 model year with only 6- or 9-speed automatic transmissions available as options, effectively dumping MT across the range. It should be noted that the 2020 Compass still comes with an entry-level 6-speed Sport and 4×4 Latitude trims.
The reason for this move is pretty obvious at the moment – no one buys an SUV with a manual transmission, at least when it comes to this model. Jeep spokesman Amy Grundman confirmed the information, saying that “there was not much demand for a manual transmission.”
Of course, the loss of the manual variant increases the base price of the small crossover, which starts at $ 25,390 for the version with the Compass Sport automatic transmission. It should be noted that the competitors of the model also lost their manula gearbox, we are talking about the Mazda CX-30, Nissan Rogue Sport and the new Ford Bronco Sport.
