New images of the updated Genesis G70 appeared on the webSeptember 8, 2020
Numerous spy shots of camouflaged prototypes have confirmed that the Genesis G70 will face a significant facelift for the 2022 model year. The sports sedan is expected to receive major exterior upgrades that will make it similar to larger Genesis models such as the G80 and G90.
Photos of the unmasked Genesis G70 have been leaked online, confirming the theory that the compact Korean sedan will be significantly updated. The latest leaked images show the G70 service manual and the front and rear of the updated model. From the pictures, the new G70 will have a different grille and new split headlights like the G80 and G90. The taillights should also be separated, but they are not shown in sufficient detail in the service book.
Under the hood, the G70 is to receive two new engine options, replacing the current 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbo and 3.3-liter turbocharged V6. The base engine is set to grow to 2.5 liters, and the 3.3-liter will be replaced by the more powerful 3.5-liter twin-turbo engine used in the new G80 sedan and GV80 SUV. Both of these engines have to be paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission, and the manual transmission is no longer available.
Genesis is also planning to release a versatile G70 variant, which, according to the brand, “will be an exciting discovery for European buyers.” Inside, the G70 should receive some interior upgrades, including an increase in the current 8-inch touchscreen display to 10.25 inches. The updated G70 is expected to be unveiled next week.
