At the motor show in Sao Paulo, which opened its doors the day before for media representatives, the Hyundai brand showed a concept electrocross Saga EV. The prototype was developed in the company’s Californian design center with the participation of the Brazilian unit. On the platform concept in Hyundai silent. Local media believe that the budget hatchback HB20, which, in turn, is based on the platform of the old Solaris, became the “donor” for the SUV.

The concept received LED optics and 19-inch wheels, cameras were installed instead of exterior mirrors. There is a rubberized coating on the roof, and elastic belts are stretched between the rails – this “kit” should make the load securing more reliable.

The length of the Hyundai Saga EV is 4028 mm, which is 108 mm longer than the standard Hyundai HB20 hatch. The wheelbase of the crossover is 2560 mm (+60 mm compared to the hatchback), the ground clearance is 302 mm versus 165 mm for the HB20. By the way, according to the latest indicator, Saga EV surpasses not only the usual hatch, but also its cross-version HB20X (205 mm), and even the larger SUV Hyundai Creta (the Brazilian version is 4270 mm, the wheelbase is 2590 mm, the ground clearance is 190 mm).

The manufacturer did not disclose the interior of the electric crossover; most likely, a non-propelled model was brought to Sao Paulo. In this case, Hyundai said that if Saga EV went on sale, it would be offered with a 204 hp electric motor. and a lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 64 kWh – the same “kit” is found in the top-end version of the Hyundai Kona Electric serial “green” SUV. The power reserve of Kona on one charge with this battery is about 470 km through the WLTP cycle.

However, Hyundai is not going to put Saga EV on the conveyor. But the designers did not work in vain: it is expected that, based on the concept, they will fulfill the appearance of the restyled model HB20. Recall, in addition to the already mentioned standard hatch and its cross-version, this family also includes a sedan and a “challenged” hatchback. Cars produced at the Brazilian factory Hyundai. From Saga EV, the G20 will most likely get a radiator grille and taillights; the headlights will also be made in the style of the prototype. The premiere of the updated HB20 family is scheduled for next year.
