New GMC Hummer could be the first electric pickup on the marketFebruary 5, 2020
As part of his speech to investors, the president of the American concern GM expressed confidence that the Hummer electric truck could be the first such vehicle on the market. This is a bold statement, given that Rivian could begin selling its R1T electric truck by the end of this year.
In the world of electric pickups, the future GMC Hummer with an electric motor is a newcomer to other similar vehicles. According to the plans of the American brand’s management, the all-electric pickup Hummer will appear at dealerships in the fall of 2021, around the time that sales of other trucks with an all-electric power plant are expected to start.
Speaking at today’s event to his investors, President of the American concern GM Royce suggested that the Hummer could surpass all such electric cars on the market in all respects.
This is a very bold statement in many ways, not the least of which is the anticipated start of sales of another Rivian R1T electric pickup at the end of this year. In particular, Hummer will compete with him.
We assume that Mr. Reuss either did not know about Rivian’s plans, or did not consider the car manufacturer a worthy competitor. However, Rivian is building an electric truck that boasts impressive features, and if everything goes according to plan, it will not just go on sale before GMC Hummer, it can become more popular.
There is no doubt that Tesla will also compete with the revived Hammer, but the production version of Cybertruck will only go on sale in 2022. Another competitor to GMC Hummer will be the all-electric version of the full-size Ford F-150 pickup, which will go on sale next fall.
