New generation Peugeot 308 will become a hybridDecember 26, 2019
The Peugeot 308 received the 2014 European Car of the Year Award shortly after production began, so the next generation should surpass its predecessor.
With innovations such as the Volkswagen Golf, Renault Megane and Ford Focus, the French automaker will have to take on much more than ever, especially when it comes to developing the next generation of its compact car, and it seems that they are ready to change a lot.
First and foremost, the next 308 will receive a plug-in hybrid power plant, which was confirmed by CEO Jean-Philippe Imparato, who acknowledged that the battery option is also being considered, which even if it receives a “green light” will appear later.
“Yes, it will be on the EMP2 platform. At first it will be a hybrid plug-in, but perhaps later it will have an all-electric transmission. Our compact and mid-sized cars will have hybrid units with a plug-in module, because this is a smoother way of switching from internal combustion engines to electric ones, ”said Imparato.
Peugeot could become a trendsetter in the PSA group in the compact hatchback segment, as it should be followed by sister brands Citroen and Opel / Vauxhall with similar versions of cars, which, according to preliminary information, will be produced respectively under the name C4 and Astra. These three cars will use the same platform, technology and most powertrains, so it is very likely that we will see the PHEV and EV versions of all these models.
