New Ford Mustang Mach 1 on saleJune 17, 2020
More than 50 years have passed since the model debuted for the first time, and almost two decades since the last time the Mach 1 icon appeared on the new Ford Mustang.
However, those who are waiting for the resurrection of the top-end performance of the model with a 5.0-liter V8 from Ford, have to be patient – it was announced during a large press conference in Dearborn, Michigan.
The Mach 1 badge, as the name implies, has always been synonymous with the fastest Mustang, which you could get without resorting to buying versions of Shelby or Boss. The name was inspired by fighter pilot Chuck Yeager, the first person to break the sound barrier. In turn, Mustang Mach 1 broke 295 records of speed and endurance throughout his life.
They decided to get rid of the massive air intake on the hood by replacing it with narrow slots, installed a radiator grill with a three-dimensional pattern, a pointed front splitter, side skirts and a diffuser, the latter also migrating to the Mustang Mach 1 with the Shelby GT500. 19-inch five-spoke wheels are made in the style of the classic Magnum 500.
The Mustang Mach 1 driver will be available for order in the exclusive Fighter Jet Gray silver and seven other colors, including Twister Orange and Velocity Blue.
Under the hood is a modified 5.0-liter V8, which will deliver about 525 hp. As already mentioned, the Mach 1 will be available with a 6-speed manual or 10-speed automatic transmission. In the first case, this is the Tremec gearbox, borrowed from the GT350.
It is known that the novelty will be on sale next spring. Closer to this date, the prices of the new Ford Mustang Mach 1 will be announced.
