New Ford Maverick pickup preparing for official debutMarch 25, 2021
Ford is already filming the Ford Maverick in a new commercial. The all-wheel drive pickup will get a hybrid version.
For the first time, Ford’s intention to return the Maverick name became known in 2018. The Maverick was originally a small rear-wheel drive sedan, but now the name is a small pickup truck. Thanks to our colleagues at Fast Lane Truck, the new Ford Maverick can be seen in all its glory: the newcomer was spotted in San Diego in a new body without disguise. One can only guess for what reason he moved around San Diego without camouflage, but most likely it was a commercial photo shoot.
Judging by how small the truck turned out to be, it seems quite obvious that it moves on a unibody platform, which is confirmed by previous spy photos. Most likely, the Maverick is based on the same platform as the Ford Escape and Bronco Sport, which will lower its price and make it shorter than the Ford Ranger. The Maverick is powered by the same engines as the aforementioned SUVs, namely a 1.5-liter or 2.0-liter turbocharged engine, as well as a hybrid option.
There is speculation that body-colored wheel arches and front bumper instead of black plastic cladding means that this is the first version or a higher-end model, respectively, more expensive.
Since this is a small truck, it will be interesting to see if Ford uses the XL and XLT names for the base models. According to preliminary information, only a few months are left before the official premiere of Ford Maverick. Perhaps the new Maverick will debut in June or July and then hit showrooms by the end of the year.
