Hybrid SUV Ford Explorer accelerates the fastest and drives a test track
The new pursuit car based on the next generation Ford Explorer has become the fastest US police car. This is reported by the manufacturer itself, but does not provide details about the engine power and dynamic characteristics of the SUV. The exception is maximum speed. It is 221 kilometers per hour.
According to rumors, the Ford Police Interceptor Utility is equipped with a hybrid power plant based on a three-liter V6 EcoBoost turbo engine with a high-performance energy recovery system, calibrated specifically for the police. According to Ford, the SUV is faster than other cars in acceleration from zero to 60 and 100 miles per hour (96 and 160 kilometers per hour, respectively), and also surpasses them on the test track.
However, more attention is paid to Ford fuel efficiency. In the combined mode, the new SUV consumes 9.8 liters of gasoline per 100 kilometers, which is 40 percent less than the previous model with a 3.7 V6. The police department can save up to $ 3,500 per year from each car.
The Ford Police Interceptor Utility will include two-year free access to proprietary telemetry service, Bluetooth support, LED lights, a steering wheel with four programmable buttons, and a 270-degree perimeter guard that can detect potential threats and automatically block the doors.
