New details about Ford Transit and Tourneo HybridSeptember 25, 2019
Ford introduced the Transit Custom hybrid module last year, but before it was released, the company released new details about the model.
The Transit Custom PHEV is designed with the ability to combine “zero-emission driving ability with no disturbance in range.” It is equipped with a 125 hp electric motor that rotates the front wheels. It is powered by a 13.6 kWh lithium-ion battery, which allows the van to travel up to 56 km exclusively on electricity in the new European driving cycle.
The van is also equipped with a 1.0-liter EcoBoost gasoline engine, which acts as a generator. This allows the van to have a total range of more than 500 km. Despite its environmental friendliness, Ford claims that customers do not have to compromise, as the battery is installed under the floor, which means that the carrying capacity does not change and is 6.0 cubic meters. The model also has a payload of 1,130 kg and an 8-year battery or 160,000 km warranty.
External changes are relatively minor, the van has a revised front bumper with a built-in charging port that allows you to charge the battery in 4.3 hours using a 240-volt 10-amp connection. With a Type 2 AC charger, this time drops to 2.7 hours.
Style updates continue in the cab as the tachometer has been replaced by a power / charge sensor and the coolant temperature sensor has been replaced by a battery charge indicator. There is also a special display that shows the distance to the discharge for both the battery and the engine.
Transit Custom PHEV will be offered in Van and Kombi versions, while Van trim levels will be trimmed to Base, Trend and Limited. However, everything will be standard with air conditioning and a heated windshield. Currently, the models are already available for order, and the first deliveries are planned in Europe before the end of the year.
Customers who are more interested in transporting people than cargo can check out the Tourneo Custom eight-seat hybrid plug-in. It uses the same power plant as the Transit Custom PHEV, but has a shorter electric range of 53 km.
