New data on the flagship electric crossover Volvo XC100May 12, 2020
The Swedish premium brand is preparing an all-electric Volvo XC100 crossover. The car will become the flagship model for Volvo.
At the beginning of this year, rumors began to appear that the Swedish company Volvo plans to introduce a flagship electric crossover, which will receive the designation XC100. Now new details about this new product have become known.
The electric car will be built on the basis of the second generation scalable SPA platform. For reference: the first generation of this architecture was originally developed for the use of traditional gasoline and diesel engines, as well as hybrid powertrains, but SPA-II was originally conceived as the basis for those vehicles that will only be equipped with electric motors.
While the XC90 crossover, which is the current flagship of the Swedish brand, can be offered with five, six or seven seats, its older brother, the Volvo XC100 with an electric motor, is said to be available exclusively with a two-row interior layout and only four seats. .
It is assumed that even the basic version of the novelty will have four-wheel drive – one electric motor for each axis. The battery is installed under the floor inside the vehicle’s wheelbase.
It is expected that the XC100 will go on sale in 2023 as a model in 2024 and will have an estimated starting price of $ 85,000 or about the same as how much is the most expensive version of the XC90 with all possible options.
Not so long ago, we wrote that the Volvo XC40 crossover will acquire new hybrid engines. One of the options for the hybrid motor has become new, and the other line has been slightly revised.
