New car sales in Germany continue to declineMarch 21, 2020
In February, the downward trend in January continued. At the same time, the German car market continues to remain in a leading position in Europe.
Analysts and statistics agency experts shared data on new car sales in Germany in February of this year. Last month, German residents purchased 239,943 new cars, which is 10.8% lower than last year’s result for the same period. If we talk about the first two months of 2020, the sales volume amounted to 486,243 copies – a decrease of 9% compared to the same period in 2019.
Residents of Germany continue to give preference to local automakers – Volkswagen became the most popular in February with a result of 44,405 cars sold (-11.1%). The second most popular was the premium Mercedes-Benz, whose official dealers managed to sell 23,577 new cars (-3.3%).
Closes TOP-3 Audi with a result of 19,172 cars sold. Among the leaders, it was Audi that showed the worst dynamics – “minus” 20.3%.
Behind him was a BMW, whose choice on cars was stopped by 17 613 residents of Germany (-1.2%). The TOP-5 is supplemented by the American Ford Focus – official dealers of the American automaker were able to sell 17,330 vehicles (-18.5%) in Germany. Note that in March, due to the coronavirus epidemic, a much stronger decrease in demand is expected.
