New BMW X8 M could get 750hp V8 plug-in hybridOctober 19, 2020
The Bavarian company is preparing to debut its flagship SUV BMW X8 M.
BMW will soon be crowning its SUV lineup with the top-of-the-line X8, including the flagship hybrid M version, which will be the most powerful production model in Delusion to date. The new BMW X8 is expected to officially debut at the end of next year and will be presented as a 2022 model.
The new X8 will be a sportier and bolder version of the seven-seater X7. While the X8 was once thought to borrow design cues from the X6’s rear end, early spy shots show it retains the classic roofline, albeit lower than the X7. This suggests that the X8 will retain three rows of seats and will be available in either a seven-seat or six-seat version, where the rear rows are captain-style and offer more luxury.
However, neither one nor the other has yet been confirmed. Other design elements that differentiate this car from the X7 include a sharper front end as well as a smaller body.
The technical details of the new X8 have yet to be revealed, but it is expected to share its platform and most of the motor range with the X7. That means a range of six-cylinder petrol and diesel engines with mild hybrid technology, an eventual plug-in hybrid and a 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 with 523 hp. in the X8 M50i version.
But unlike the X7, the M50i will not be the top of the lineup because the X8 was also conceived with a full-size M version. The “charged” new car will probably launch about a year after the standard X8, the X8 M will have a plug-in hybrid system combining 4. 4-liter V8 with electric motor and battery. Insiders speculate that the result could be up to 750bhp, making this BMW the most powerful BMW to date.
