Based on spy images and information from various sources, the most far-sighted of the artists demonstrate their vision of what will be the serial BMW 4 Series.
BMW introduces its characteristic radiator grill full of steroids, which is especially noticeable on the X7 and 7 Series with facelift. Those who are not a fan of these large two-piece air vents will have to come to terms, as the front of the new 4 Series has a noteworthy embodiment of one of BMW’s most striking design features.
The modest BMW grille, which was developed for the 5 Series (E39), the automobile country has long ceased to be seen as a design element. However, no one could have imagined such a crazy design as it was presented by the BMW design department under the leadership of Adrian van Hoydonka. The current generation of the X5 received a large grille in 2018, but the updated 7 Series and the new X7 that followed it made it just huge, and this is not the limit, since the grille on the 4 Series has stretched even lower and will soon cover the entire height of the front panel.
For those who have been following the news of the Bavarian brand, the eccentric front of the new BMW 4 Series is not surprising, because last year at the Frankfurt Motor Show, BMW already showed a harbinger of the model – the Concept 4 show car with an elegant and powerful body that seems a bit shorter and “muscular »8 Series.
The BMW 4 Series draws heavily on the technology of the new 3 Series, released last year, and will be available as a coupe and convertible with a fabric cover instead of a steel roof, as in the current version. A wide range of gasoline and diesel engines is expected in the engine range, with a 1.5-liter three-cylinder unit as the main source of energy.
At the other end of the spectrum, of course, will be placed the brutal M4, which is likely to receive a 3.0-liter engine with a minimum of 450 hp, since the current M4 Competition provides the same power. Fully in line with the BMW M tradition, more powerful versions of the CS and GTS will follow later.
It is noteworthy that the car is not available with an automatic transmission, as well as with a manual transmission. BMW connects the transmission to an M xDrive system similar to the M5. This means that the car is mostly all-wheel drive, but the power on the rear axle can be released at the touch of a button.
