The second generation Audi R8 Spyder seriously changed technically and technologically, but apparently it is not so noticeable.
The car shown earlier this year at the Motor Show in New York, and now begins the first sales in Europe. And to this event Audi have prepared all possible information about the new car.
It really does not look new, according to Audi, at first sight it’s just a facelift. In fact, things are not so simple. First of all, a supercar with a soft-top is wider by 36 millimeters. At the same time the wheelbase remained the same, and the total body length has decreased due to shorter overhangs.
Not look new body panels, but, compared with the previous generation R8 Spyder, steel, 50 percent stiffer in torsion. The whole body is now weighs only 208 kg, and the soft top mechanism – 44 kg. All the same machine shown in the balance figure in 1612 kilos. This is the net weight.
This figure was achieved through lightweight materials. Nearly 80 percent of the body components are made of aluminum and is now very widely used elements of carbon fiber.
The predecessor of the new Audi R8 Roadster was offered with a 4.2-liter V8, and now there are no such unit in the model range. The new roadster will be sold exclusively with a V-shaped 10-cylinder 5.2 liters engine. The same engine is equipped with Lamborghini Huracan. This atmospheric engine with 540 hp and a torque of 540 Nm.
With this motor, and all the technological innovations, the new R8 Roadster accelerates to the first hundred in 3.6 seconds, this is 0.2 second faster than its predecessor. Increased and maximum speed of 7 km/h. Now R8 can put a mark on the speedometer 318. True places where this can be done legally, the world not so much.
In addition to the new hardware in the body and below it, the second generation R8 Roadster can boast a high-tech and new interior with a huge 12.3-inch monitor, which replaced the usual combination of instruments.
Audi Virtual Cockpit, which in some Audi models available as an option, there is already in base. Here it is appropriate. The driver of this roadster really may need information overload in the corners, lap times, tire temperature and all transmission fluids.
It is clear that pleasure is not cheap. In Germany, where Audi R8 Spyder sales have already begun, and the price starts here from 179 000 euro. But the work does not have such an expensive R8. It will set a 2.9-liter V6 biturbo. Same uses Porsche Panamera 4S.
It is not clear what the technical specifications will have an engine for the Audi, but it is known that under the hood of Porsche it develops 440 hp power and torque of 550 Nm. And sales of cars with the V6 is expected in Europe next year.
