New 440-horsepower Toyota Supra fights drag with BMW M4May 2, 2020
YouTube channel carwow compared the acceleration and braking dynamics of the BMW M4 of the outgoing generation F82 and the new Toyota Supra GR after light tuning. The upgrade almost equalized the power and price of the rear-wheel-drive two-door, will Supra be able to beat the M4 at a quarter mile distance?
The BMW M4 debuted in 2014, under the hood of a German coupe, the in-line 3.0-liter turbo six S55 rated at 431 horsepower and 550 Nm of torque. The unit is combined with a 7-speed “robot”. BMW weighs 1,645 kilograms and is about 75 kilograms heavier than Toyota. Price in the UK – 66.5 thousand pounds.
“Stock” Toyota Supra GR is equipped with an in-line 3.0-liter “turbo-six” BMW B58 (340 forces, 500 Nm) in combination with an 8-speed “automatic”. By replacing the exhaust system and chip tuning, the return was increased to 440 horsepower and 678 Nm of torque. The price of the upgraded Supra is close to 60 thousand pounds
A small tuning equalized the chances of BMW and Toyota – both coupes overcame a quarter mile in 12.3 seconds; the winner at the start “on the move” in the manual mode was determined on the cutoff of the speed limiter, and when braking from 113 kilometers per hour, the duelists were separated by a few centimeters.
