New 2020 Nissan Qashqai is about to become a hybridDecember 5, 2019
The next generation of Qashqai will feature two new hybrid powertrains, and our exclusive images show the style of the new model.
The third-generation Nissan Qashqai will go on sale next year, with new hybrid powertrains, an updated version of the CMF and an exceptional design. Nissan is also considering abandoning a diesel engine to help reduce the carbon emissions of an SUV. The new Qashqai will be based on an updated version of the CMF Renault-Nissan Alliance platform, which offers electrification support.
The company confirmed that there will be no fully electric version of the new Qashqai, since electric power is reserved for a separate model of the Ariya SUV, presented at the Tokyo Motor Show in 2019. The novelty will be based on a completely new platform, which is likely to serve as the basis for a whole family of electric vehicles covering segments B, C and D for Nissan and its alliance partners Renault and Mitsubishi.
“The new platform is what’s best for electrified technology. It probably won’t include full electrification because it’s a complete gap, and the investment needed to do so will be much higher, ”said Ponz Pandikutira, Nissan’s Vice President of Product Planning for Europe.
Thus, the new Qashqai will be offered with two hybrid power plants – one with Nissan’s innovative ePower system and the other from Mitsubishi. The previous system is currently located in the Japanese Nissan Note, where it turned out to be quite popular. It is a sequential hybrid system with a gasoline engine that acts as a generator to charge the battery, which drives the electric motor.
Hybrid plug-in technology will come from Mitsubishi, which is widely recognized as the market leader in this area. Unlike its competitors, Mitsubishi has already managed to tune its Outlander PHEV to get the lowest emissions, and it is expected that the new Qashqai will offer similar indicators. However, Mr. Pandikutira is not yet sure about the benefits of plug-in hybrid technology.
The next generation of Qashqai will implement more technologies, including updates to the autonomous Nissan ProPilot control systems and added connectivity features. In terms of style, the SUV will adopt a revolutionary new design, previously shown in the images and add in size.
