At a private event in Beijing, Volkswagen introduced the third-generation Touareg. The novelty is focused, first of all, on China and Europe. Off-road vehicle sales will begin in July-August 2018.

New VW Touareg built on the platform MLB – it also created Audi Q7 and Porsche Cayenne. In comparison with the predecessor, Touareg became longer (+77 m), wider (+44), but lower (-7 mm), and the trunk grew from 697 to 810 liters.[IP]&ua=[UA]&domain=[DOMAIN]&page=[PAGE]&secure=[SECURE]&language=[BROWSER_LANGUAGE]&bidfloor=[BIDFLOOR]&gdpr_consent=[GDPR_CONSENT]

Despite the fact that the Touareg was more than its predecessor, its curb weight in comparable versions, on the contrary, decreased. On average, the SUV dropped 106 kg due to the use of aluminum in its construction (the body consists of 48% of this metal) and high-strength alloys (52%).

At the start of sales VW Touareg will be offered with two diesel engines and one gasoline. In the base version, the SUV will have a three-liter V6 TDI (231 hp and 500 Nm). In addition, the line will be the same engine, but with a different degree of boost (285 hp kw and 600 Nm).

The most powerful diesel engine is the four-liter V8 TDI, both on Audi SQ7 and Bentley Bentayga. In the case of the Touareg he issues 421 hp. and 900 Nm.

The petrol version has changed: instead of an atmospheric 3.6 liters, the Tuareg now has a supercharged three-liter six-cylinder that produces 340 hp and 450 Nm.

In China, at the start of sales will also offer a 367-strong hybrid version (petrol engine + electric motor). This version will be available only in Asia, and whether such a Touareg is needed in Europe and Russia, the Germans have not yet decided.

All versions of the new Touareg received an eight-speed automatic transmission. Moreover, the transmission selector is implemented in the same way as on the Audi Q7 – instead of the classic lever here is a compact joystick.

The 4Motion permanent all-wheel-drive system on the new Volkswagen Tuareg can transfer up to 70% of the torque to the front wheels and up to 80% – to the rear wheels. The electronics have five sets of off-road settings: Automatic, Snow, Sand, Grass and Expert Off-road. In the latter, all smart assistants are disconnected and do not interfere in the management process.
