NASA invited everyone to choose a name for the new roverJanuary 22, 2020
At the end of last summer, NASA launched the Name the Rover contest, in which thousands of users from around the world competed for the right to give the original name to a new rover, preparing to go to the Red Planet. After carefully selecting the nine best options, the agency launched a worldwide vote for the final version. Anyone can take part in the fate of the rover now, but it’s worth the haste.
According to NASA, more than 28 thousand works were sent to the contest. The jury, which evaluates the names, consists of 4700 volunteers, most of whom are teachers and specialists in the field of space. At the first stage of the competition, 155 of the most harmonious options were selected, after which nine variants of the name for the new rover got into the final:
An open vote on the choice of the final name of the rover will last until January 28. Anyone can vote for the name of the spacecraft they like, which will soon go to Mars, by going to the competition’s official website. NASA will publish the results of the survey upon completion of the reception of votes, the total number of which has already exceeded the mark of 70,000.
