Experts have conducted a study of several brands in the wind tunnel in Italian Turin. The corporation emphasized that the main emphasis in the development of the Lightyear One model was placed precisely on aerodynamics, which made it possible to increase its power reserve.

The maximum range of this 5-seater vehicle powered by solar energy is approximately 800 km. According to the head of the company, Lex Hofslut, the machine will be very efficient.

 Due to the special form of the body, the brand’s engineers were able to achieve a low coefficient of air resistance, which is 0.2 units. Lightyear One even managed to surpass the performance of the Mercedes-Benz A-Class model, which last year became the smoothest car with an aerodynamic drag coefficient of 0.22.

  It should be emphasized that the founders of the Dutch company Lightyear are members of the Solar Team from Eindhoven. These guys constantly took part in the Bridgestone World Solar Challenge solar-powered electric car competitions, and in 2016 decided to apply the accumulated experience to develop a civilian car that can be powered by solar energy. Within two years, they attracted 20 million euros of investment and created their own debut model with the laconic name Lightyear One.

  This is a large liftback with a length of 5057 mm and a width of 2 meters. A flat nose and a long tail are not only a tribute to aerodynamics, but also a method to increase the area of ​​solar panels: it reaches 5 square meters.

  Photocells are located on the hood, roof, and fifth lifting door. The cells of the new generation are 20% more efficient than the classic ones and are covered with durable glass that can withstand the weight of an adult.
