Naked KTM 1290 SUPER DUKE R 2020 – the main disappointment of EICMA 2019?November 10, 2019
KTM 1290 SUPER DUKE R 2020 could be safely considered one of the most anticipated neiked at EICMA 2019, but in the end it became one of the biggest disappointments, experts say.
While popular motorbike manufacturers show us real powerful 208hp beast motorcycles, such as the Ducati Streetfighter V4 and MV Agusta Brutale 1000RR, the Austrian company shows us only a 177-strong likeness of the “beast.” It is reported that the cost of Naked will be 1.5 thousand euros cheaper than Streetfighter V4.
It is worth noting that this is a different motorcycle, with a different frame, chassis, etc., however, everyone expects much more stunning power indicators from KTM.
The KTM 1290 SUPER DUKE R 2020 differs from the previous generation in the first place by its updated chassis. The 1301cc engine, which became 800g lighter, has now become a carrier. The wall thickness of the frame became thicker, and its diameter increased. Thanks to this, it was possible to reduce the weight by a few kilograms. Engineers tried and increased the rigidity of the entire structure. They also managed to achieve a dry weight of 189 kg, which is a good result.
The motorcycle received a WP Apex suspension with many adjustments and a new pendulum – this should improve the stability and handling of the bike.
Regarding the KTM electronics, there are no questions – there is everything you need and even more, like on all other flagships of the Austrian company.
It is worth noting separately the new control panels, the development of which was a lot of time. The right remote control is very good, it has all the necessary buttons and it is made at the highest level. As for the left remote control, this is a real failure. It is overloaded with completely unnecessary buttons, there is no tactile response, and it also creates the feeling that the central joystick was originally broken. Even the plastic on it leaves much to be desired.
At the same time, the Indian FTR1200 Rally 2020 was introduced at EICMA 2019. This is the same basic version of the niked in terms of technical specifications, but it is completely different in appearance.
