About three months ago, Ford had to agree to pay millions to owners of Focus and Fiesta cars equipped with PowerShift automatic gearboxes. The brand will redeem each such car, paying their owners $ 22,000 each. Lawyers estimate the total amount of $ 500 million!

Now, another Ford transmission has been called “problematic”. A new class action lawsuit from Ford Mustang owners from 2011–2020 is reported by The Drive. The reason for going to court was the 6MKPP, which sports cars with MT82 and MT82-D4 codes are equipped with.

Owners complain about the operation of transmissions: they slip, twitch, abruptly engage, collide with gears, wear out prematurely and, in the end, fail. Even the repair does not help to fix the problems.

Specialists investigated the problem back in 2011 after complaints from car owners (then the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration in the USA (NHTSA) received 364 complaints). However, then no security risks were found. Ford recognized the existing problems and instructed dealers to repair the gearbox, replacing a number of “problem” parts.

According to a new lawsuit, Ford’s decision to switch to Chinese Getrag transmissions to save money caused problems. In response, the automaker said that defects are due to common wear and tear.
