Mustang gearbox put on Ford TransitJune 5, 2020
In the equipment of the model added a ten-band “automatic”
The European Ford Transit began to install a ten-band “automatic” from the Mustang fastback. The new drivetrain is offered exclusively for rear-wheel drive models with two-liter EcoBlue diesel engines.
A ten-band drivetrain developed by Ford’s own engineering division is installed on Ranger, F-150 pickups and Mustang sports cars. In the process of its development, the company filed about 20 patents, including the integrated direct-acting solenoid (Casting-Integrated Direct Action Solenoid, CIDAS), which allows more accurate metering of pressure and reduces the switching time. In addition, Ford synthesized a special transmission fluid with a low viscosity – it reduces internal friction and does not require replacement.
From now on, such a “machine” will be installed on rear-wheel drive Transits with a 2.0-liter diesel engine. The company notes that the new box is most suitable for delivery vans, 15- or 18-seater “minibuses”, as well as motor homes.
It withstands towing trailers weighing up to 2800 kilograms, and the maximum permitted mass of the two-pedal Transits varies from 3500 to 4600 kilograms.
Test copies of the “machine” have passed more than six million kilometers of life tests, so there should not be any problems with reliability.
