MSO’s McLaren Elva Gulf debuts at GoodwoodOctober 16, 2020
The British company is preparing for the official presentation of its new electric car McLaren Elva Gulf.
McLaren is enjoying great success with its latest Ultimate Series models, be it the Senna / Senna GTR or the three-seater Speedtail. We cannot say the same about the Elva as the car hit the market in the midst of the pandemic. There weren’t many willing to shell out $ 1.7 million for the car, prompting McLaren to cut production from 399 to 249 and then to 149.
The company’s specialists have repeatedly tried to bring more piquancy to Elva, developing all sorts of special versions, and the last one may be the best. Celebrating McLaren’s renewed partnership with the Gulf Oil brand, the roofless Ultimate Series is retro styled and is the brainchild of MSO. This means customers will be able to order McLarens in Gulf livery straight from the factory through MSO.
The special edition McLaren Elva Gulf is a nod to the original partnership of the late 1960s and early 1970s, when Can-Am, Formula 1 and Indy cars were attractively painted. The world premiere of Elva will take place at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, which is being streamed online due to the coronavirus outbreak.
McLaren says its specialist division MSO has completed specifications for the first Elva and is in talks with additional customers “to create impressive new paint finishes and liveries.”
Although production was cut not once, but twice, down 250 units from the original plan, the vehicles are still on sale. The dedicated 804 horsepower vehicle will compete with the Ferrari Monza SP1 / SP2 and Bentley Bacalar and Lamborghini Essenza SCV12 Speedster.
