Most American pickups protect passengers worse driversMarch 22, 2019
This is the conclusion reached by analysts of the American Insurance Institute for Highway Safety – IIHS. The results were provided after lengthy crash tests of 11 different pickups.
The safest pick-up on the tests of the American Insurance Institute for Highway Safety – the IIHS was the Ford F-150. The car showed good passenger safety results and excellent results for the driver. The displacement of the front panel into the passenger compartment in the frontal collision was 12.7 centimeters, and thanks to the work of the security systems, all the dummies were left without “injuries”.
A number of tests were carried out according to a “rigid” scheme with a frontal collision and small overlap (25%). This is one of the most difficult tests for cars of any segment. The collision occurred at a speed of 64 km / h. Damage was assessed on a dummy. The results were compared with similar tests, but from the drivers. A total of 11 pickups were tested.
As it turned out, most models of pickups provide a weaker level of safety for passengers than drivers. Pickup Toyota Tundra showed the worst result. In the event of a collision, the head of the “passenger” hit the handle located on the front desk.
In the meantime, the new Mitsubishi L200 was turned into the most enduring and “unkillable” pickup. The special version of the popular model will debut early next week at the Bangkok auto show.
