Mini will revive the name Traveler for a new family minivanSeptember 6, 2019
The German brand plans to breathe life into the losing segment of the compact minivan. Mini is going to offer customers a practical car that will be named Traveler and become the heir to the BMW i3.
Mini conceived the new Mini MPV, aimed at fans of family cars. Such brand customers, as a rule, are looking for models with a more universal layout than the current Clubman and Countryman. It is known that the basis for the new minivan, for which the company will revive the name Traveler, will be the FAAR platform of the parent company BMW. It is planned that the motor range of the novelty will include not only traditional ICEs, but also hybrids, as well as the environmentally friendly Traveler SE.
In this case, the novelty can become a worthy rival for Volkswagen ID 3. The Mini electric minivan will be the heir to the BMW i3: it will receive modern batteries that guarantee a range of more than 400 kilometers.
This step fits well with the brand’s new concept, which is based, in particular, on a comprehensive restructuring of global sales. Mini is going to work in two areas: with models on the FAAR platform and with cars on the “cart”, developed jointly with Great Wall. The brand plans to focus on the production of its models at three car factories in the Netherlands, China and the UK. Enterprises in India, Thailand and Malaysia will be responsible for individual operations.
