MINI will return the manual gearbox to the American market in early 2020December 13, 2019
Despite the fact that the American market is less and less perceiving a mechanical box, and most models are sold there without this option, MINI decided differently. Already in February 2020, versions with a six-speed “mechanics” will appear in the United States.
Back in July this year, MINI representatives said that the production of models with a mechanical transmission will be delayed. The company was going to conduct an additional “assessment” of the market. However, now the company has confirmed the information about the return of the “mechanics” at the beginning of next year.
“Starting in February 2020, customers will be able to order MINI models with a manual transmission. Production will begin in March 2020. Clubman and Countryman will appear in July, ”said company spokesman Andrew Cutler.
In addition, the company noted that the installation of a mechanical transmission required additional optimization. Engineers had to modify the software and the technical part.
Meanwhile, the new Mini John Cooper Works GP will debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show. The public premiere of the fastest and most powerful serial Mini will be organized today. The novelty will be released in a limited edition.
