Mercedes S-Class, BMW 7-Series and Audi A8: which is the best luxury sedan?May 3, 2021
The carwow team decided to compare three German executive sedans – Mercedes S-Class, BMW 7-Series and Audi A8. The cars were compared in terms of appearance, interior arrangement, noise level, number of technologies, etc.
The Mercedes S-Class, BMW 7-Series and Audi A8 are probably the most luxurious cars money can buy outside of luxury cars like Rolls-Royce, but which one is better? Matt Watson of the Carwow YouTube channel of the same name is trying to answer this question. As part of the video, the presenter compares the three huge premium sedans to each other.
One of the most important factors to consider in this comparison is price, as a cost advantage can sometimes explain and possibly compensate for a car’s shortcomings in other areas. According to tests, the 7-series was the cheapest, followed by the A8 and then the S-Class. It is worth noting that these cars are not exactly the same in terms of technical characteristics, but Watson is trying his best to equalize the two, mentioning what models with similar equipment will be supplied with.
At the front, the sleek S-class wins “for the pretty face”, followed by the “well-proportioned” A8, and then the more compact but “slightly less assembled” 7-Series.
As for the rear end of these cars, there seems to be a connection between Mercedes and Audi, with BMW being slightly overrated for Watson’s taste. Finally, when it comes to side profile and overall appearance, the S-class wins again.
You can’t talk about luxury sedans without mentioning their interiors, so this comparison is perhaps the most profound of the entire video. Audi wins in style, BMW wins in build quality, and Mercedes wins by a wide margin in technology and features. The 7-Series wins in both quality and technology, while the S-Class is the best in overall comfort.
Another important thing to consider about these vehicles is that, with their sheer size, they also need to have a fairly large trunk. Fortunately, they all boast a lot of luggage space, but some more than others.
In terms of cabin noise (or lack thereof), Mercedes wins. In terms of ride quality, Mercedes had a smoother ride, while Audi was “generally better” in Watson’s words. In terms of powertrain, Mercedes’ 9-speed gearbox was the clear winner.
