Mercedes collected tire informationFebruary 22, 2019
On Thursday, at tests in Barcelona, Mercedes once again worked with two riders – in the morning Lewis Hamilton got behind the wheel, and in the afternoon he was replaced by Valtteri Bottas. The main task was to collect information about the different formulations of tires.
Valtteri Bottas (4th): “The first week of tests was very good for us in terms of reliability. We drove a great distance and avoided serious problems. Today we drove short sections to see how the W10 works when we are trying to achieve higher speeds from it.
During this week we have made progress – every day the car was getting better. Now we are waiting for the next week and look forward to even greater progress. Many thanks to the team – the first tests went very well. Now we need to add in the second week. ”
Lewis Hamilton (5th): “In the morning it was pretty cold, so everyone had problems with tires. In general, today the car was better and seemed more collected. However, we need to analyze in more detail the information and changes in the settings that we made.
The machine has high reliability, and it’s great – the hard work of everyone at the base is bearing fruit. However, we must continue to attack, because the opponents look very strong.
The weather was good all week, we were able to complete the program, and it was nice to see the fans in the stands. I look forward to returning behind the wheel next week. “
Andrew Shovlin, chief race engineer: “For Lewis, the start of the day was difficult, because of the low temperature of the asphalt it was difficult to get the tires to work. To avoid damage, we decided to wait until it gets warmer, and after that we continued to work on the program. We first put the softest composition on the W10, and today we just tried to assess the balance, grip and the difference between the compositions.
The daily program of the Valtteri was similar to the Lewis program – he worked with the same compositions. We spent several very productive days, the high reliability of the machine allowed us to complete the program.
This week it became obvious that Ferrari and Red Bull are very strong. I hope the tests next week will be positive and will help us prepare for Melbourne. ”
