Mercedes-Benz will present a new SL in 2020October 1, 2018
Mercedes-Benz is developing the eighth generation SL in 2020. It is reported by Autocar with reference to a representative of the German brand. The car’s premiere is to be held in 2020. Manufacture of cars will be adjusted in the city of Zindelfingen in Germany.
The new SL and the next-generation AMG GT supercar will share the new lightweight platform. In this case, the car should be added in dimensions and transformed into a more luxurious open model with a landing formula “2 + 2”. In addition, the new SL will lose the hard top and get a more traditional soft roof.
“The new platform will give us more freedom,” a German company spokesman said.
According to unofficial data, the car will receive several hybrid modifications at once. The power of such cars will be from 400 to 600 hp. Also, the new SL will be equipped with a nine-speed automatic transmission. In addition, the machine will receive a semi-autonomous control function.
Earlier it was reported that the leadership of the company Mercedes-Benz has decided not to develop the next generation SLC roadster. As the head of the North American division of the German brand Klaus Zellmer stated, the “SLC roadster will disappear forever” from the automaker’s model line, however, did not specify for what reasons.
