Mercedes-Benz will launch a premium electric car by 2020April 6, 2018
The company Mercedes-Benz will develop a luxury electric sedan called EQS. Sales of cars in Europe should start in 2020, reports Autocar. The novelty will compete with Jaguar XJ and Audi A8. At the same time, the company stressed that the car will not become part of the S-Class line.
“We will have an electric car of the S-Class level, no doubt. However, it will not become part of this family, “- said the editor of the project, Michael Kielz.
According to the top manager, the novelty will receive “short overhangs in front and behind, as well as a large wheelbase.” Kielz stressed that the company has already prepared a prototype for the future model. All the rest of the information about the car is kept secret.
The new electric family of the German brand will include two sedans, two crossover cars, and a hatchback that can compete with the BMW i3. The prototype of the latter was presented in September last year at the Frankfurt Motor Show.
In addition, photospies have already repeatedly managed to remove the first serial electric crossover Mercedes-Benz. Sales of an electric car under the name EQC will begin in the first half of next year. The main competitors of the novelty will be Audi E-tron, Jaguar I-Pace and Tesla Model X. The crossover will be built on the newly developed platform Electric Vehicle Architecture (EVA).
