Mercedes-Benz S-class in coupe and convertible versions decided to refuseFebruary 27, 2019
Absolutely new generation of the German sedan S-class should appear in 2020, but the long-awaited novelty will be offered only in the sedan.
We have detailed information on the plans of the management of the German brand for the representative Mercedes-Benz S-class of the next generation.
It is reported that the long-awaited receiver of the legendary flagship model will not be offered in the version of the coupe and convertible.
The current (sixth) generation of the S-class coupe fell on the conveyor back in 2013. An updated version of the model, which received minor “cosmetic” changes was introduced only last year. It is known that the next generation Mercedes-Benz S-class sedan will be shown in 2020. The demand for the sedan model version is much greater than for the cabriolet and coupe versions – apparently, therefore, it was decided to halt the development of such performances in the new generation of executive cars.
At the moment, S-Class Coupe can be purchased from 125,950 dollars. Under the hood will be a 463-hp 4.0-liter Twin-Turbo V8, Burmester sound system. Version with an open roof will cost even more.
This decision does not mean that Mercedes completely abandon the luxury 2-door models. It is expected that the new SL-class (sports model in the back of a roadster / coupe) will arrive in 2020, and the Mercedes-AMG GT may well entice some S-class buyers who want to go with an open top.
