The company Mercedes-Benz introduced a new generation of GLE crossover. The public premiere of the car will take place at the motor show in Paris in October. Sales of new items in Europe will start next year. The main rival of the novelty will be BMW X5.

The new GLE is built on the MHA (Modular High Architecture) platform. The same chassis uses the new E-Class. The new platform was conceived by engineers from Stuttgart specifically for models with high ground clearance. This same chassis will use the GLE Coupe, as well as the successors of GLC and GLS.

The car grew in size in comparison with its predecessor. Now the length of the wheelbase of the crossover is 2995 mm (+80 mm). Thanks to this, the free space for the feet of the rear passengers has significantly increased. The coefficient of aerodynamic resistance is 0.29 (0.32 for the previous GLE). The volume of the trunk is 825 liters, and with the folded backs of the seats, this figure grows to 2,055 liters. GLE can be purchased with five and seven-seater saloon.

The novelty design has undergone significant changes in comparison with the current GLE. The car has a new optics, large rims, modified bumpers and another grille. The new Mercedes-Benz GLE is equipped with a wide glossy instrument panel with two displays under a common glass. One of them is responsible for the devices, the other for multimedia and navigation.

The layout of the front panel has undergone serious changes: here is another unit and the location of climate control, the air ducts and even the keys for adjusting the seats on the doors have changed. Also, the crossover received a three-spoke steering wheel with touch panels, like the S-Class.

The car was also equipped with a new multimedia system Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX). Artificial intelligence knows how to self-learn and over time can understand even complex commands.

As for the line of engines, it has not yet been declassified. At the moment, Mercedes-Benz told only about the version of the GLE 450 4Matic, which received a three-liter petrol six-cylinder in-line engine that produces 367 hp and 500 Nm of torque. It works paired with a 48-volt on-board network and a starter generator that provides an additional 22 horsepower and 250 Nm.

It is also expected that customers will be offered two diesel engines for a choice of 286 and 340 hp. In addition, the novelty will receive a sports version of AMG. According to unofficial data, this modification will get a 4.0-liter petrol twin-turbo V8 engine. The power of the unit will exceed 600 horsepower.

Mercedes-Benz GLE received an improved active Active Body Control hydro-suspension with off-road mode, the activation of which the vehicle’s ground clearance will be increased. Top versions of the crossover equipped with adaptive air suspension, which will be able to change its settings, based on data from the front-facing video camera scanning the road.
