Mercedes-Benz has published the first teaser of the new EQSMarch 5, 2021
Mercedes is gearing up for the world premiere of its highly anticipated flagship electric car, the Mercedes EQS, as a teaser campaign has kicked off.
Literally a few days have passed since the German luxury brand released a video showing the interior of the Mercedes EQS with its massive screen, and now we are allowed to take a closer look at the exterior of the model.
Fortunately, there is no more camouflage. This is still considered a teaser image because Mercedes deliberately darkened the silhouette image. However, when you increase the exposure and brightness, you can see something.
Actually, the EQS is not a sedan per se. This is technically a liftback because it has a more practical trunk opening, whereas the smaller EQE, which is also coming this year, will have a traditional opening. Those door handles that stay flush with the body and only extend when you need them are not just a design fad, they serve a functional purpose – optimizing airflow for improved aerodynamics and efficiency.
With the same goal of making the side profile as smooth as possible, Mercedes installed the mirrors slightly lower on the doors rather than on the base of the A-pillars where they are usually located. Numerous spy shots have shown that there will be small windows next to the A-pillars and C-pillars to improve visibility.
Overall, the exterior is reminiscent of the impressive concept car unveiled a few years ago. As a reminder, a plug-in hybrid with an expandable four-door coupe and a drag coefficient of just 0.19 made its debut at the 2014 IAA in Frankfurt. EQS will ditch the combustion engine entirely, using a new platform designed from the ground up for electric vehicles.
“There will be no luxury sedan on the market and there is currently no one that compares in size, design and space to the EQS. He is one step higher, ”said Ola Kolenius.
From the few details about the production model, we know that it will have reclining rear seats and a range of around 700 km. The Vision EQS concept, unveiled at the 2019 Frankfurt Motor Show, also promised a range of 700 km, as well as a 350 kW quick charge to “charge” the battery to 80% in less than 20 minutes.
The 2022 Mercedes EQS is expected to premiere sometime in April. The EQB electric crossover is also slated to debut later this year.
