In the model range of Mercedes-Benz, a new crossover – a seven-seater GLB. It is built on the platform of the current A-Class and is aimed at families with children and people leading an active lifestyle. In the arsenal of new items there are two petrol and two diesel engines, as well as an optional off-road package Off-Road Engineering with a special mode of operation of the control electronics and headlights.
The Mercedes-Benz GLB is built on the same platform with a transverse engine and front-wheel drive as the A-Class and GLA. 4Matic all-wheel drive with electromechanical clutch is an option. Design feature – angular body and short overhangs. Unlike the older GLC, there is the possibility of installing a third row of seats: passengers in two separate seats can fit up to 1.68 meters tall.
The second-row seatbacks in GLB are divided into three parts in the proportion of 40:20:40 and have seven positions. In addition, you can additionally order a longitudinal adjustment within 140 millimeters and a folding backrest of the front passenger. The trunk volume of the five-seater crossover variant is 560 liters, and with the rear couch folded down – 1,755 liters.
Salon crossover repeats the style of the younger models: there is a virtual dashboard, the media complex MBUX and the steering wheel with touch panels. The list of available equipment also includes active cruise control, parking assistance, Multibeam matrix headlights and a massage function with various relaxation programs.
The new Mercedes-Benz GLB is offered in five versions with petrol and diesel engines. The base GLB 200 is equipped with a 1.3 petrol turbo engine (163 hp) and a seven-speed robotized gearbox. GLB 250 4Matic (224 hp), GLB 200 d (150 hp), GLB 200 d 4Matic (150 hp) and GLB 220 d 4Matic (190 hp) – the new box 8G-DCT. The default drive is front. Adaptive shock absorbers and Off-Road Engineering package are available for the model.
It includes an “off-road” driving mode, an assistant during descent and start on an ascent, animated visualization on the screen of multimedia for the angle of rotation of the wheels and the inclination of the car, as well as the special operation mode of the Multibeam headlights, which makes the light beam wider.
Sales of Mercedes-Benz GLB in Germany will begin before the end of the year. The crossover will be produced at the Mexican brand plant in Aguascalientes.
