Mercedes announces updated coupe and convertible E-Class

The German automaker has released the first teasers featuring images of the updated E-Class Coupe and Cabrio, both of which will be presented next to the updated sedan and station wagon.

Mercedes keeps the details secret, but said the updated Cabrio E-Class “combines everyday practicality, exemplary safety and superior travel comfort with a sporty, elegant design.” The company said that we should not expect a more dynamic front panel with a standard diamond grille and “flat” LED headlights. The top range also promises to be “more powerful and efficient than ever before,” with new EQ Boost engines coming along.

Speaking of electrified engines, Mercedes-AMG confirmed that the updated E53 Coupe will have an electrified powerplant with a three-cylinder 3.0-liter turbocharged engine with 429 hp. and 520 Nm of torque. The model will also have an EQ Boost starter-generator, which can produce an additional 21 hp. and 249 Nm of torque.

In addition, a new six-cylinder and hybrid 2.0-liter four-cylinder gasoline engines may appear in the lineup. The latter produces a power of 197 hp. and has a built-in starter-generator, which can produce an additional 20 hp and 180 Nm of torque.

Mercedes-AMG E53 will receive a “completely modernized interior” and enhanced identity with “design features”. Coupe and Cabrio are expected to have a new steering wheel, updated upholstery and 10.25 or 12.3-inch displays for the digital instrument cluster and infotainment system. Updated driver assistance systems and several new features are also expected, such as power seats and Urban Guard protection packages.
