Mercedes-AMG C53 spotted with less camouflageNovember 12, 2020
The performance Mercedes-AMG C53 will be positioned below the top-end AMG C63 in the lineup.
The entire Mercedes C-Class lineup will receive new looks, new powertrains and a new interior as part of a deep redesign, from the entry-level model to the top-end AMG offering. That range includes the mid-range AMG model, the AMG C53, and a new series of spy shots showcases the sedan’s ongoing development.
The car has received a little less camouflage than before, although it looks like there is some kind of cladding under the film in front. However, the model shows off-the-shelf lighting fixtures in the front and rear, which suggests that development is progressing well. While it is the smaller of the two AMG models, it does have some telltale signs of performance, and the square exhaust is one of the saloon’s striking indicators of the sedan’s power potential. She is also expected to receive a Panamericana grille.
The new AMG model should come with a new engine. The V6 is rumored to be gone as Mercedes replaces it with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder. Some Mercedes models have 416bhp, which would be a nice improvement over the 385hp produced by the 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 engine. There is a chance the unit could generate even more power in the C53 and it will be mated to a 9-speed automatic transmission. Even the C63 is expected to swap out its V8 for a four-cylinder hybrid engine.
Mercedes won’t launch the new C-Class until the end of next year. However, the AMG C53 is expected to debut alongside it. The high-performance C63 is likely to arrive at the earliest in six months.
