McLaren sales nearly doubled last yearFebruary 16, 2019
According to the general director of the manufacturer of supercars, Mike Flevitt, McLaren started a “significant year” in terms of sales in 2018. Not a small share of the success came in entry-level cars Sports Series.
Sales of the premium sports car company rose 44 percent to 4806 in 2018. The record demand was helped by the emergence of new entry-level models in the Sports Series. Like many premium automakers, the largest market for McLaren was the United States, which accounted for more than a third of total sales. Meanwhile, sales in China grew by 122 percent, accounting for seven percent of total sales.
Back in 2010, the company McLaren decided to actively develop in the civilian segment. The company plans to develop the business to a sales level of 6,000 cars annually. The same is included in the roadmap called Track25, within which the limited editions of the limited series McLaren 600LT and Senna are also expected.
Experts also note that a significant increase in sales could be achieved thanks to the crossover. However, McLaren still “resists” the thread. Fluitt however said that developing an SUV would be very expensive. The company does not have a platform that could be adapted for this.
Porsche, Bentley, Maserati, Rolls-Royce and Lamborghini already receive dividends from crossovers, and Aston Martin and Ferrari are preparing for this.
Meanwhile, Ferrari will show its hybrid supercar in 2019. It is already known that the Italian novelty will not be shown at the upcoming motor show in Geneva (March 2019). The car will be available early next year.
